My initial thoughts on "I'll give you the sun" include such things as my first impression, which was rather funny, before page ten the members of our group were laughing so hard we had to bite our tongues to keep from laughing. The book got serious quickly as Noah talked about how Jude was their parent's favorite and how Jude was fearless and was everyone's favorite. When the mom gets a visit from their dead grandmother, she states that the children should apply to CSA, the nearby art school. Noah and Jude spend time walking through museums and when Noah shows his mom the art he made, she was mesmerized and almost forgot about Jude and her art. Skip forward three years, Jude is at CSA and another one of her sculptures has fallen over and broken, the obvious work of their dead mother's ghost. Readers are left wondering what happened and why Jude is Noah aren't close anymore. The book so far has been great, I can't wait to read on and find out what Jude plans to do about her ghost, and what Noah does with Brian, the new boy across the street. Would totally recommend this book, it is a great read.
Over my spring break I stayed here in Iowa City, I didn't really do much. On the first day I biked downtown with my sister, it was cold and we had to wear our coats. Me and my sister used our allowance to buy some things, we went home again and did some chores, that was basically it for the day. My sister had a sleepover that night and wasn't back until around 11:30, and since it was already late in the day we decided to stay home for the day and "clean" around the house. On the third day we biked downtown again and had lunch at noodles and company. We asked for a second bowl so we could share a mac. and cheese, but they gave us tow bowls when we paid for one, so that was pretty great.
On the third and fourth day we didn't really do much, just stayed around the house actually cleaning this time. On the fifth day, me, my sister, my friends and one of their younger sisters went swimming and it was really fun. The weekend was pretty normal, just running errands and sitting on my butt doing nothing. So, that was my spring break, yay. 1. In ¨Night¨ the story is told a point of view of someone who was a victim in the Holocaust, ¨The Boy in the Striped Pajamas¨ was told from someone who watched as it went on, not knowing what was really going on. In the book ¨Night¨ Elie knew more about what was was happening and is a true story, the movie was historical fiction, wasn't true. In ¨Night¨ the main character survives to tell the tale, literally, in the movie it is a different case, I don't want to spoil it.
2. 3. I learned a lot in this past unit, I think before I was underestimating how many people the Holocaust affected and what people went though. I didn't know much about the Holocaust before and now I don't know where to start. I learned what some people did to try to escape and fight back, and how some people died and were sacrificed so we could learn form this terrible experience. 4. I personally liked the movie more, and not just because it's a movie. I thought it was easier to follow. That might have been because it was movie but I think I felt more of the feelings the author wanted us to feel. 5. No other comments or questions - Page #78
- words of the wiser - When Elie is in the infirmary, the doctor he trusted told him to get out before the next selection, there was selection in the infirmary too. The selection was more often in the infirmary than outside, so the doctor told Elie to get out even though his foot was still bad, he told Elie to get out as soon as possible. - What's the life lesson and how might it affect the character? The life lesson for this part of the story is that you don't know where you are safe. Elie thought he was safe in the infirmary but in fact he was in even more danger. This would affect the character because Elie would now know that he is not always safe whenever or wherever he thinks he is. - Page #100 - Memory moment - When they were on the train and one of the workers tossed in a piece of bread, there was a stampede, for the one piece of bread. Elie then tells of a future time when a woman is tossing coins to the natives who dove for them. Elie noticed that two children were fighting in the water and he asked the woman to stop, she said that she liked to give charity. - Why might this memory be important? This memory would be important because it would remind Elie of his time on the train and how close to death he was. It would remind him of those terrible years in the ghetto. - Page #91 - Aha Moment - When Elie and his father were in the concentration camp, afraid to go to sleep, Rabbi Eliahu was looking for his son. Elie said he had not sen his son, but after he walked away Elie remembered that he had seen he Rabbi's son running beside him. Then he thought something terrible, what if the Rabbi's son wanted to lose his father, to be done with the burden of looking after him. Elie then thought it was good that he had forgotten to tell the Rabbi about his son. - How might this change things? This would change things because it could make Elie want to fight harder to get him and his father out of the concentration camp, it also might make Elie feel the same way. It might make Elie feel like his father is a burden he doesn't need to carry anymore. Over winter break I didn't really do much, for the first few days, I went shopping for Christmas ideas for my siblings. Soon Christmas came along, I didn't really get anything good, just clothes and things like that. We had planned on going to Des Moines after we opened presents on Christmas, but my sister was sick and we couldn't go because my grandpa cant be around someone with a fever because of his kidney transplant. Because my younger sister was sick, we decided to go to Debuque. We stayed at an awesome hotel that had a water-park and arcade inside. I really enjoyed staying there. We went to this restaurant that I swore we went to years ago and we got free ice cream, but my parents thought I was crazy.
For the second half of winter break, we went to Des Moines to have our second Christmas, again I didn't really get anything good. We spent a couple of days there and returned home. For new years, I stayed home and ate junk food, the most exciting thing I did was jump off the couch into the new year. For the last feww days of winter break I really didn't do much, I went swimming with my friends and went to another friends house to play video games. It wasn't the most exciting week but it was fun. I was almost excited to go back to school, to see my friends, I mean. So that was my winter break. If I were president of the United States, three things I would want to accomplish would be to make sure that everyone has the right healthcare. If people are not healthy then that's not good. Also if people cannot afford healthcare for themselves and their family, that is also a problem, therefor healthcare would be affordable as well. I would want to make sure everyone is healthy and aren't spending their life savings on healthcare they can't afford.
Another thing I would make sure to do would be to have a law raising the minimum wage for teachers, I have recently seen a video saying that teachers should be paid more. I would have to have to agree with that statement, especially because teacher teach the future adults in this country, they teach them right from wrong. I believe that teachers don't get paid enough and they need to be paid more. Also I would try to make it easier to go to college, college can be very expensive and people shouldn't have to pay more to do what they want. There may be some things that may cost more but people could spend a lot of money on their education, and we live in a country where education is the norm. To do this, I'm not sure what I would do but I think I would pass a law saying that people cant pay more than a certain amount for x number of classes. The article was mainly about what skills an 18 year old should have, from being able to talk to stragers, to taking risks. It also includes ways that parents take too much control in a child life, for example, teaching them that strangers are bad, so then they are afraid to approach new people. Parents also step in whenever there is a problem, therefore the child doesn't know how to deal with the problems that come into their life.
1. An 18 year old must be able to talk to strangers. I feel like I can talk to stranger if I need to, I dont exactly walk up to everybody and say "Hi my name is Hannah!" but I also don't keep to myself all of the time. 2. An year old must be able to find their way around. I feel like I can find my way around, but I have also lived here my whole life. 3. An 18 year old must be able to manage their assignments. I feel like I can already handle my assignments pretty well, and I am very happy to says that. Occasionally, I forget to turn in an assignment, but my teachers are so nice they let me turn it in without any point deductions. 4. An 18 year old must be able to contribute to the running of a household. I already contribute around the house, chores. I take the trash out, run the dishwasher, and clean my room. I think I would have no trouble doing it as an 18 year old. 5. An 18 year old must be able to handle interpersonal problems. I feel like I can communicate with people very well, and I can deal with the problems those people might bring up. 6. An 18 year old must be able to cope with ups and downs. I feel like I can deal with the peoblems in my life, some of them might be harder to deal with than others, but I deal with them. 7. An 18 year old must be able to earn and manage money. I can't say that I know about this one because I don't have a job. However, tahe money that I get from birthdays and things like that, I handle really well. 8. An 18 year old must be able to take risks. I dont take that many risks, And of the ones that I do, they are pretty small. Soem might be, chewing gum in a class I'm not supposed to. Or even glancing at my phone to check the time, eventhough there is a clock on the wall. As good as I am on all of these traits I still have four years for me to improve. If I could live inside any video game I would chose to live inside Slither.io I don't know very many video games so that's the best one I chose. I could play that game for hours. I like that you can come back to life and it doesn't say in big letters across the screen that YOU DIED. I also like that even if you start out tiny, you can kill the some guy on the leader-board. Also, I like that it shows your score after you die.
To start my list of things that I am thankful for, I would like to start with my family. I am really thankful for my parents, having an older brother who has been a role model for me. I am also very thnakful for my younger sister, she provides me with things to do, sometimes things I don't want to do. Sometimes we fight a lot and we gat mad, but we don't stay mad for too long.
One more thing that I am thankful for is, my education, I am so glad that I get to go to school and hang out with all my friends, make new friends, and learn different things. Some of those things include, being in band, having the opprotunity to take extra classes like one I am taking right now, Food For Fitness. I am really thankful that I live in a country where education is the norm. |
